Fluted Bloom Bowl
About.
This piece is a fusion of digital precision and natural inspiration. The form is drawn from patterns observed in natural elements like flower petals and shell ridges, translated into a clean, rhythmic fluted geometry. The aim was to explore how organic repetition can create both aesthetic appeal and functional grip in ceramic objects.
Process.
Digital Modeling: Initial form exploration in Rhino 3D, refined with clean parametric geometry in AutoCAD.
Prototyping: The positive body was created using POP (Plaster of Paris) to serve as a CNC carving base.
CNC Machining: A 2-axis CNC machine was used to carve the final form, allowing accurate and repeatable details with sharp, clean lines.
Slip Casting: The final mold was produced and used to cast the ceramic body.
Result.
The fluted pattern offers a visually engaging texture and improves grip, functioning both as ornament and utility.
A successful demonstration of bridging CAD with craftsmanship, pushing the boundaries of slip casting with digital tools.
The final form offers tactile interest, stackability, and a strong presence, ideal for contemporary dining aesthetics.
